May
"...you can venture down inside the valley by taking the 100+ steps carved in the rock..."
As the months go by one after the other, the weather keeps on improving.
What should I wear in Gozo for May?
The weather in Gozo is particularly warm for the month of May. Therefore, no winter clothes. Moreover, rain is very rare so no need to worry in carrying a raincoat or tracking with heavy boots. Light clothes are essential during the day as the sun will be up high in the sky.
Should I swim in Gozo during May?
During May, the sea will be calm and there will be opportunities to swim in some of the nice beaches in Gozo. However, it is worth noting that the sea temperature would still be rather cold, depending on your taste 😊 . The island of Gozo has scattered beaches along its coast line. However, most of which are found on the northers side of the island. This is because the southern part is quite elevated from sea level, and the southern coast forms a cliff edge with the sea. Beaches vary between sandy or rocky, shallow or deep, having a wide opening or a being in a small narrow valley.
During your touring around Gozo, we suggest visiting Ghasri valley. This tiny valley is a natural gem. It is situated far from the main popular beaches, so no commercial tour will take you to this place. It is best to have your own transport to arrive at the valley. There is also parking availability. Apart from the natural beauty that can be seen over the valley, you can venture down inside the valley by taking the 100+ steps carved in the rock. The air in the dale is always cool and the tiny beach is inviting for a plug in the sea. The narrow zigzagging valley provides shelter to several fish and sea alga. This is a good place to snorkel and observe the fish while making their way through the valley. The seabed is not deep inside the valley. Consequently, this offers good fish spotting opportunities. On the other hand, the sea gets deep at the mouth of the valley and keeps on sloping down the further you swim for land.

Should I visit Comino?
Yes, Comino is very different from Malta and Gozo. There are only three persons living permanently on this island. Spring and Autumn are the best seasons to visit Comino. For those who love hiking and nature, it is best to visit the northern and easter part of the land. This section is still untouched by man, with some wild vegetation and large number of wild rabbits. There are two main beaches on Comino. Saint Mary’s bay is a more quiet and relaxing spot. The sandy beach is family friendly. Near the beach one can visit Saint Mary’s cave which can be access from the land by passing through a wide cave with a tiny natural pool. This leads to a pathway to the open sea.
How do I get to the Blue Lagoon?
The other beach on Comino Island is the Blue Lagoon. This lagoon is famous for its vibrant blue colour. The best way to get to the Blue Lagoon is from Gozo. Boat trips departs by the hour during the summer period. It only takes 10 minutes to arrive to Comino and the fare is about 10-15€. As the Blue Lagoon has become very popular it has grown to be very commercialized. One will find kiosks selling beverages, porn food, and alcoholic drinks. Deck chairs and umbrellas are in abundance.
It is also possible to swim across the lagoon and get to the island of Cominotto. Next to the Blue Lagoon is the Crystal lagoon which is usually less crowded but not less attractive.
How long should I plan to stay on Comino?
Your visit to Comino will take around one day. Keep in mind that the only access to and from the island is by scheduled boat trips. So, planning a 2-3 hour visit is not a reality. The day will be full, with boat trip, swimming in different beaches, tanning under the Mediterranean sun, and enjoying a cocktail at the Blue Lagoon.
