Is Ggantija in Gozo worth visiting?

Yes, it is a must. The temple of Ggantija goes back 7000 years, in a time where the Egyptian pyramids haven’t yet made it to the drawing board.

The temple is built with enormous stones which originated from the south of Gozo. According to local myths, giants have brought the rocks from the south to the hill of Xaghra to construct the temple. It was later revealed that the past inhabitants of the island have made a series of large balls out of solid rock. These were used as transportation for the large stones to make up the temple.

Visiting the archaeological visit, you will understand the skills and talent of the early residents of Gozo. The museum near the site showcase relics and artifacts which were found on site during research and excavations. A number of small statues are present in the museum. These depict the goddess the people used to worship.
