January

"...Gozo’s top food specialities are the goat cheeslets..."

Starting a new year is always exciting.  Like starting a new book and you never know what awaits you.

A new year can have unlimited opportunities in which we can explore and enjoy life.  Although this can be hindered during the month of January.  Following the Christmas period, everyone feels the need of a break.  So, this particular month will be ideal as there will be no big event happening on the Island of Gozo. In other words, we can use freely our imagination to enjoy ourselves.

How to spend my January days on Gozo?

The month of January is particularly good to enjoy short walks.  Residing at Il-Barrag Farmhouse B&B, one can venture in the neighbourhood to see a variety of places of interests. Just five minutes away on foot, one will arrive at Ta’ Kenuna Tower. Being at the edge of the hill, it is an eye opener. The Gozitan scenic view will impress all. A different attraction in Nadur village would be The Maritime Museum. Situated in a quiet part of the village, one has the chance to stop and enjoy the local village life.  In addition, it is best to visit the Basilica at the centre of the village where daily mass is celebrated.

How is the weather in Gozo during January?

The weather is particularly cold. Some winter clothes are a necessity This also includes jacket and raincoats. Although rain is not high on the daily agenda, some unexpected rain may pour at time during January. During the day it is generally good to say that there is always a slack cool wind present. Moreover, it tends to be more windy in exposed parts of the island, especially near the shore. Nonetheless there is a very good side for visiting during the cold season.  One of Gozo’s top food specialities are the goat cheeslets, known as “ġbejniet”. The famous cheese can be bought from local grocery stores or directly from the village’s houses which keep goats just for this particular purpose. The cold weather improves the milk and the maturity process. This results in an improved taste.
